Kongsberg has received a $54 million modification to an existing U.S. government agreement for autonomous underwater capabilities. The award primarily covers deliveries of autonomous underwater vehicles and related components, extending the company’s work with the Department of War Innovation Unit and the U.S. Navy.

The modification was made under a Prototype Other Transaction Agreement, Kongsberg said on October 29. The announcement did not specify vehicle models, quantities or delivery dates.

“This contract continues our collaboration with DIU and the U.S. Navy and reflects confidence in KONGSBERG’s autonomous underwater technology,” said Eirik Lie, Kongsberg’s chief executive officer. “We remain focused on delivering reliable systems for demanding operational environments.”

Lie said the award also showed how Kongsberg’s dual-use portfolio could meet defense requirements. The company has more than 30 years of experience developing autonomous underwater vehicles for military and commercial customers.

“Autonomous underwater systems are a core part of KONGSBERG’s technology portfolio,” said Camilla Kiss, executive vice president and president of its Discovery division. “So far in 2026, we have signed AUV contracts worth a total of NOK 1.7 billion across all markets.”

Those contracts, worth 1.7 billion Norwegian kroner, cover both defense and commercial business. Kiss said the orders supported Kongsberg’s ambition to expand in undersea warfare and provided a foundation for further development.

“Advances in artificial intelligence, edge processing and autonomy are enabling platforms to undertake increasingly complex missions with greater persistence and operational effectiveness,” Kiss said. “We are at the forefront of this development.”
