Lithuania and Sweden partner for joint procurement of RBS 70 NG air defence systems

By Defence Industry Europe

The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence has signed a cooperation agreement with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). This agreement integrates Lithuania into the existing framework for the procurement of RBS 70 NG short-range air defence systems, a deal that FMV has previously established with Saab, the Swedish defence company and manufacturer of the RBS 70 NG.

The Lithuanian defence ministry announced plans to sign a contract for an unspecified number of RBS 70 NG air defense systems. The first of these systems are expected to be delivered to Lithuania by 2025, with the aim to conclude the entire contract by 2027.

The Lithuanian ministry stated that negotiations with Saab regarding this procurement will commence shortly. These discussions will be conducted jointly with the Swedish FMV, underscoring the collaborative nature of this defense initiative.

According to FMV, this joint procurement approach will provide both Sweden and Lithuania with more favorable conditions, including better pricing and more efficient delivery timelines for the RBS 70 NG systems.
