Lithuania has joined the Immediate Action on Air Defence (IAAD) initiative, spearheaded by the German Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This initiative aims to enhance Ukraine's air defence capabilities amid ongoing war.

As part of its commitment, Lithuania is providing six AMBER 1800 radar systems to Ukraine. This contribution is seen as a life-saving measure for the Ukrainian people. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius expressed gratitude towards Lithuania’s involvement in the initiative during a recent address to Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas. “Thank you also for your participation in our air defense initiative,” Pistorius said.

During the occasion, Pistorius also highlighted Germany’s ongoing support for Ukraine. Germany is delivering an additional Patriot Phased Array Tracking Radar to Intercept on Target (Patriot) system, with training for its use already underway. Furthermore, Germany is providing IRIS-T systems, Gepard anti-aircraft gun tanks, and artillery ammunition.

In addition to these efforts, Germany is leading the Capability Coalition Integrated Air and Missile Defence (CC IAMD), which aims to strengthen Ukraine’s long-term air defence capabilities. Pistorius emphasized Germany’s commitment to this initiative, stating, “We are pleased to contribute to the demining coalition led by Lithuania.”

Germany and Lithuania’s collaborative efforts reflect a strong and united front in supporting Ukraine’s defence needs. The IAAD initiative and the contributions from both nations signify a crucial step towards enhancing Ukraine’s air defence systems, ultimately aiming to protect and save lives amidst the ongoing conflict.
