The Lithuanian defence procurement agency has signed a contract with the Norwegian defense company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for two launchers of NASAMS air defense system. As announced by the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, the system will be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Lithuanian defence ministry has stated that the value of the contract is EUR 9.8 million. The agreement is expected to be fulfilled within three months.

“We are purchasing updated NASAMS launcher systems, which are fully prepared for integration into the fire control units of the Ukrainian army. This will supplement and expand the existing NASAMS systems donated by Norway and the US,” said Arvydas Anusauskas, Lithuania’s defence minister.

Lithuania responded to an urgent request from Ukraine to strengthen air defences in the face of Russian attacks on military and civilian targets, according to a statement from the Lithuanian ministry.
