In February 2025, Spanish companies Escribano Mechanical and Engineering and Integral de Conexión y Montajes, S.L. (ICM) delivered critical components for the SPY-7(V)2 radar, a key element of the F-110 frigate. Since the project’s announcement in summer 2024, the two firms have collectively supplied over 10,000 components to various Lockheed Martin locations for installation and integration.
Lockheed Martin officials visited the facilities of both Escribano Mechanical and ICM to observe the manufacturing process firsthand. Chandra Marshall, Vice President of Multi-Domain Combat Solutions at Lockheed Martin, praised the partnership, saying, “Through our partnership with ICM and Escribano, we are not only strengthening our relationship with Spanish industry but also expanding our global supply chain by leveraging local expertise and capabilities. This partnership enhances Lockheed Martin and Spanish industry’s ability to deliver high-quality, scalable, and mission-ready systems to our customers.
The relationship between Lockheed Martin and Spanish company Indra dates back over 25 years, originating with the F-100 programme in 1996. This partnership has consistently evolved, now encompassing the F-110 programme, which includes the integration of Aegis combat systems and the advanced SPY-7 radar.
In March, engineers from Indra visited Lockheed Martin’s Clearwater facility in the United States to receive training on the assembly process for the SPY-7 radar’s Sub-array Suite Power Supplies. The training included a comprehensive overview of assembly procedures, hands-on practice with fixtures and tools, and participation in testing and troubleshooting exercises.
This transfer of knowledge and skills is essential for future production. Prototype builds are set to commence in mid-2025, with production builds planned for early 2026. In addition, Lockheed Martin has strengthened its presence in Spain by expanding its Madrid office and adding personnel, reinforcing its commitment to local production.
Commitment to International Collaboration
Lockheed Martin’s collaboration with Spanish industry reflects its commitment to fostering innovation in radar development, naval, and airborne computing systems. The company continues to work closely with its Spanish partners to design and deliver defence capabilities suited to the demands of modern security challenges.
“Our long-standing relationship with Spanish industry exemplifies how we work together to deliver innovative and mission-ready solutions,” Marshall remarked. Lockheed Martin remains dedicated to maintaining these partnerships, ensuring that Spain possesses cutting-edge defence solutions against evolving global threats.
The integration of Aegis and SPY-7 technologies in the F-110 frigate programme marks a significant advancement in Spain’s naval defence, highlighting the value of strategic international cooperation and technological expertise.
