Lockheed Martin says PAC-3 ACE is ready for the battlefield as low-cost interceptor against aircraft, cruise and ballistic missile threats

Lockheed Martin is positioning its PAC-3 Adapted Capability Effector as a lower-cost interceptor that is ready for battlefield deployment. “One missile, one mission: neutralize aircraft, cruise missiles and short‑range ballistic threats,” the company said in a social media post.

The post described PAC-3 ACE as “our low‑cost, high‑performance interceptor built on the trusted PAC‑3 family.” Lockheed Martin added: “Ready to hit the battlefield — defense fast and affordable.”

The message followed the company’s July 20 introduction of PAC-3 ACE as a complementary air and missile defense interceptor. Lockheed Martin said the new weapon would cost less than half as much per unit as a PAC-3 MSE.

PAC-3 ACE is designed to engage aircraft, cruise missiles, close-range ballistic missiles and short-range ballistic missiles. The company said the interceptor would lower the cost per engagement while adding magazine capacity for allied forces.

 

The design uses the existing PAC-3 fire-control system and established PAC-3 software. It will connect with both the Patriot weapon system and the Integrated Battle Command System.

Lockheed Martin said those existing links would shorten development, testing and fielding compared with traditional acquisition programs. The company plans to move rapidly into initial production, although it has not provided a timetable.

American and European industry partners will support development and production. Lockheed Martin said the model would create a common interceptor for allied users while strengthening transatlantic supply chains.

The company has not disclosed a planned unit price, production volume or first customer for PAC-3 ACE. Its only published cost comparison places the interceptor at less than half the per-unit price of PAC-3 MSE.
