The contract for the supply of five high-speed patrol vessels was signed on Wednesday by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Christos Stylianides, and the Managing Director of Marine Alutech Oy Ab, Niko Haro, in the presence of the Finnish Ambassador to Greece, Jari Gustafsson. The contract includes an option for an additional five boats, total contract value being EUR 17 + EUR 17 million (€3.4 million per vessel), Finnish company Marine Alutech said in a press release.
The Watercat 2000 Patrol vessels have an overall length of 19.5 m, an overall width of 5.1 m, a maximum speed of more than 50 knots and shall be equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance equipment.
These vessels will be made available to meet the operational needs of the Hellenic Coast Guard and shall contribute substantially to the upgrading of its maritime border surveillance capabilities.
The main project is co-funded at 90% by the Special Action “Frontex Agency Equipment” of the Internal Security Fund 2014-2020 of the European Union. The options have been included in the programme of the Border Management and Visa Policy Financial Support Instrument (BFSF) of the Integrated Border Management Fund 2021-2027 and will be co-financed at a rate of 75%
