Greece received its first FDI frigate, HS Kimon, in December 2025 under the programme initiated in 2022. Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and French Armed Forces Minister Catherine Vautrin attended the handover of HS Nearchos.
“Only ten months after the delivery of HS Kimon, it is an honour to deliver the second FDI frigate for the Hellenic Navy, HS Nearchos, in the presence of Catherine Vautrin and Nikos Dendias, whom I would like to thank for their renewed trust,” said Pierre Éric Pommellet, Naval Group’s chairman and CEO. He said the new frigate would contribute to the Hellenic Navy’s operational superiority at sea.

The Hellenic Navy has also awarded Naval Group the initial in-service support contract for its FDI frigates. Maintenance and upgrades will involve Naval Group Hellas and Greek industrial partners, with the aim of maintaining the ships’ operational availability.
More than 75 Greek companies are involved across Naval Group’s FDI frigate and submarine programmes. Their work includes electronic charts produced in Greece, pre-outfitted hull blocks, and complex mechanical and electronic systems.
