Barrett Firearms will manufacture Northrop Grumman’s Precision Grenadier System weapon under a new teaming agreement between the companies. The shoulder-fired 25 mm launcher is designed to give infantry squads a way to engage troops behind cover, close-quarter threats and small drones.

Barrett will build the weapon at its Nashville, Tennessee, facility and integrate an inductive setter for programming ammunition. Northrop Grumman will continue prototyping the system and developing its 25 mm rounds.

PGS weighs just under 12 pounds and uses a five-round magazine. The semi-automatic launcher combines advanced fire control with specialized ammunition for different targets.

Northrop Grumman has developed four round types: high-explosive air-bursting, proximity, close-quarter battle and training. The company said the ammunition can use common components and existing automated medium-caliber production lines.

The companies intend the partnership to speed development and delivery for U.S. and international customers. They did not disclose financial terms, production quantities or a fielding timetable.
