The Royal Air Force’s second Boeing E-7A Wedgetail has arrived at Lossiemouth in Scotland following trials at Boscombe Down. The airborne early warning and control aircraft joins the first example, which has been based there since May.

With two aircraft at Lossiemouth, the RAF expects to accelerate testing and evaluation. Both formal delivery and entry into operational service depend on the successful completion of those trials.

Britain is awaiting delivery of three E-7A Wedgetails, with conversion work on the Boeing 737-700 airframes having started in early 2021. The second aircraft, designated WT002, made its first flight after conversion in July.

WT002 was shown in its final paint scheme at the end of August. It then began its initial trials at Boscombe Down before transferring to Lossiemouth.

Australia, Turkey and the Republic of Korea have already taken delivery of E-7A Wedgetails. STS Aviation Services has also begun converting the first Boeing 737-700 for the US Air Force, alongside its work on the two remaining RAF aircraft.
