Reliant: new long-range UAS by Quantum Systems [VIDEO]

By Defence Industry Europe

Quantum-Systems debuted its latest unmanned aerial system (UAS), the Reliant, during SOF Week in Tampa, Florida, showcasing its capabilities in long-range and long-endurance vertical take-off and landing operations. The Reliant is part of the Family of Systems, which includes the mid-range Vector and the short-range Twister, all designed to be interoperable for complex joint UAS missions.

The Reliant UAS is tailored for beyond-line-of-sight Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), as well as Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition (RSTA) missions in environments where access is typically denied or highly contested. It combines the versatility of rotary wing aircraft with the efficiency of fixed-wing designs, offering over 10 hours of mission endurance.

This cutting-edge system is not only robust in its operational capabilities but also excels in ease of deployment. It can be made operational in less than 10 minutes from a two-case mission pack without the need for any tools. The Reliant also includes a secondary payload bay, enhancing its capacity for additional ISR sensors and expanding its mission versatility.

Powered by Li-Po batteries and an Internal Combustion-based Hybrid-Electric Drive, the Reliant achieves a flight time of 4 hours on battery power alone, extending to more than 10 hours when utilizing the hybrid system. It has a maximum cruise speed of 60 mph, a payload capacity of 3 kg (6.6 lbs), a length of 7.8 feet, and a wingspan of 12.8 feet.
