Rohde & Schwarz backs NATO’s transition to SATURN for secure military communications

By Defence Industry Europe

Rohde & Schwarz has reaffirmed its leadership in secure military communications by supporting the NATO-wide adoption of SATURN, a new interoperable and anti-jam UHF radio waveform. The company is among the first to implement the Second-Generation Anti-Jam Tactical UHF Radio for NATO, which is set to replace the legacy HAVE QUICK system.

SATURN provides secure and reliable transmission of voice and data, improving coordination among allied maritime and air forces. It meets NATO’s Minimum Military Requirement for interoperability and complies with STANAG 4372, enabling seamless integration across ships, aircraft, and ground units.

With decades of experience in waveform development, Rohde & Schwarz has already delivered and commissioned thousands of SATURN radios for NATO and allied forces. These systems are currently operational across a wide range of military platforms, underlining the firm’s role as a leading European provider of secure communications.

SATURN’s fast frequency-hopping capability ensures high resistance to jamming, a crucial asset in modern electronic warfare environments. Its adoption enhances NATO’s collective ability to safeguard mission-critical communications in increasingly contested electromagnetic domains.

“As a trusted partner in secure communications and software-defined radios, we’re thrilled to support the transition from HAVE QUICK to SATURN, enhancing security and interoperability for our NATO and allied partners,” said Markus Dolfen, Vice President, Secure Communications at Rohde & Schwarz.
