In December 2023, the company signed a contract with the Romanian Ministry of National Defence for the modernization and upgrade of Oerlikon GDF 103 air defence artillery systems operated by the Romanian Armed Forces. This agreement, valued at EUR 328 million, is the first-ever deal signed by Rheinmetall with Romania.

Subsequently, in February this year, Rheinmetall – through Rheinmetall Landsysteme – announced the acquisition of a 72.5% stake in the Romanian vehicle manufacturer Automecanica Mediaș. After the finalization of the transaction, the company will operate under the name Rheinmetall Automecanica SRL.

“We look forward to supporting Romania in future projects in the vehicle domain as well as with other Rheinmetall technologies. Here, the inclusion of local partners and strengthening the Romanian economy are matters of central concern to us. We want to meet the expectations of Romania’s politicians and military in the best possible way,” said Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall.
