Royal NLR partners with Skunk Works to enhance defence priorities for the Netherlands and allies

This alliance was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which will guide future cooperation in critical areas such as European strategic autonomy, military operational analysis, technology roadmaps, and fostering stronger ties between the Dutch industrial sector and defence initiatives. The collaboration comes at a time when global security concerns are increasingly pressing, and the need for innovation in aerospace and defence has never been more vital.

Royal NLR, with over a century of experience in developing cutting-edge solutions for the Dutch military, continues to be a key player in the Dutch Ministry of Defence’s innovation efforts. As an organisation rooted in research and technology, NLR’s mission aligns closely with that of Skunk Works, which has been at the forefront of aerospace advancements for decades.

Skunk Works, famous for iconic aircraft such as the SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance plane and the F-117 Nighthawk stealth aircraft, has built a reputation for delivering groundbreaking aerospace systems. The American company has an 80-year history of pioneering advancements, and its collaboration with NLR is seen as a natural extension of its innovative approach. Together, the two organisations aim to address the rapidly evolving challenges in global security.
