The Spanish Government has announced its decision to donate 19 Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Prior to their shipment, these tanks will undergo an extensive overhaul and refurbishment process at the General Dynamics European Land Systems - Santa Barbara Sistemas facility in Sevilla.

Spanish authorities have confirmed that these 19 Leopard 2A4 tanks will be sourced from the resources of the Spanish Armed Forces.

“Each unit will undergo a comprehensive overhaul, including the disassembly of components, replacement of defective parts, and assembly of systems, to ensure their full operational capability and effectiveness on the battlefield,” stated General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) in a social media post.

Since February 24, 2022, Spain has already donated 10 Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks to Ukraine. With the addition of these 19 tanks, the total number of Leopard 2 vehicles that have been handed over or pledged to the Armed Forces of Ukraine exceeds 100.

Prior to this, Ukraine had received at least 71 Leopard main battle tanks from various Western European countries. Open sources report that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have destroyed at least 14 of the Ukrainian army’s Leopard 2 tanks.
