The AUV MCM is a portable autonomous vehicle designed for rapid seabed mapping and high-resolution sonar imaging. It can detect various underwater objects, making it a valuable tool for both defence and infrastructure inspections.
According to Johan Björck, strategic buyer at FMV, the system can be operated from different platform sizes as well as from shore. This flexibility enhances its operational effectiveness and ease of deployment.
The system is already in use by other NATO navies, which strengthens interoperability with the Swedish Navy. This compatibility ensures seamless integration into allied operations and maritime security efforts.
Gavia AUVs are lightweight, weighing around 60 kg depending on configuration, and can be manually deployed from shore or a vessel. Their modular design allows for rapid transportation, easy maintenance, and increased operational reliability.
The vehicles can also be equipped with additional sensor modules either at the time of purchase or as upgrades. This adaptability ensures the system remains relevant for evolving operational needs over time
