“This contract for additional BONUS projectiles to Sweden, the third since 2017, reinforces our long-standing partnership with the Swedish Armed Forces,” said Henrik Knape, ammunition sales director at BAE Systems Bofors. “We are committed to delivering a trusted solution that strengthens their indirect fire capability and keeps their warfighters safe.”
The BONUS munition significantly improves the long-range strike potential of 155mm cannon artillery by targeting and neutralising enemy combat vehicles with precision. Its effectiveness covers a wide range of threats, including main battle tanks, self-propelled guns, infantry fighting vehicles, and armoured personnel carriers.
BONUS is a fire-and-forget system that deploys two sensor-fuzed submunitions, each capable of independently detecting and engaging armoured targets. Its operational footprint spans up to 32,000 square metres and it can reach a maximum range of 35 kilometres when fired from a NATO L52 artillery system.
The munition is particularly suited to modern artillery platforms such as BAE Systems’ ARCHER, providing high accuracy even against moving targets. Developed jointly with Nexter Systems, BONUS has already been adopted by Finland, France, Norway, Sweden, and the United States.
The contract reinforces Sweden’s commitment to equipping its forces with advanced and reliable defence technologies. It also underlines the international trust placed in BONUS as a proven capability on contemporary battlefields.
