The Norwegian Government has decided to acquire 54 Leopard 2A7 main battle tanks (MBT) from German Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), with an option to purchase an additional 18 units.
Germany’s slowness in authorising the supply of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine was bad news for Ukraine, European security and Germany itself.
Germany will supply Ukraine with modern Leopard 2 battle tanks and allow allies such as Poland, Finland and the Netherlands to do so as well.
Issued in the second quarter of 2022, the order is worth around €42 million, including value added tax.
Under the German government’s “Ringtausch” equipment exchange programme, Rheinmetall will soon be supplying the Czech Republic with main battle tanks and other military hardware.
