Thales Alenia Space, as the prime contractor, managed the satellite’s design, construction, and launch preparation. Positioned at 116° East in geostationary orbit, Koreasat 6A replaces the previous Koreasat 6, providing essential fixed and broadcast services across South Korea.
Beyond communication services, Koreasat 6A plays a vital role in enhancing the Korea Augmentation Satellite System (KASS) through its Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) payload. Developed by Thales Alenia Space in partnership with the Korean space agency KARI, KASS enhances GPS accuracy for sectors like air navigation and transportation.
Hervé Derrey, CEO of Thales Alenia Space, expressed satisfaction: “I am delighted to see that Koreasat 6A has been successfully launched and will now be enhancing satellite-based communication and navigation services in South Korea.” This launch underscores Thales Alenia Space’s longstanding collaboration with KT SAT, marking another step in their partnership.
