Boeing delivers two more O3b mPOWER satellites to SES for December launch

By Defence Industry Europe

Boeing has successfully delivered the seventh and eighth O3b mPOWER satellites to SES, marking a key milestone in their ongoing partnership. Equipped with Boeing’s advanced software-defined communications payload, the satellites are now en route to Cape Canaveral, Florida, for a planned launch in December.

The O3b mPOWER satellites utilise Boeing’s pioneering software-driven integrated payload array technology, enabling adaptable connectivity and high-frequency re-use, which boosts operational efficiency. “We’ve worked closely with SES from the start of this program, and we moved with pace to manufacture the latest pair of satellites,” said Michelle Parker, vice president of Boeing Space Mission Systems. “We look forward to seeing the satellites enter service and continue to impress SES users.”

SES, which recently launched its O3b mPOWER system, is eager to expand its constellation with these additional satellites, enhancing its capacity to deliver high-quality connectivity services worldwide. “With our O3b mPOWER system now operational, we are excited to bring these two additional satellites into orbit and bolster our constellation,” said Milton Torres, CTO of SES. He credited the combined efforts of SES, Boeing, and other partners in realising the O3b mPOWER system’s unique capabilities.

The satellites can generate over 5,000 fully steerable beams, allowing SES to allocate bandwidth and power to specific regions or customers dynamically. This flexibility enables fast, reliable internet connectivity across land, sea, and air, supporting diverse applications, including video streaming, remote work, and critical enterprise operations.
