The destroyers neutralised multiple threats, including three anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs), three one-way attack uncrewed aerial systems (OWA UAS), and one anti-ship cruise missile (ASCM). These defensive measures safeguarded both civilian vessels and naval personnel in a high-risk area.
“These actions reflect the ongoing commitment of CENTCOM forces to protect U.S. personnel, regional partners, and international shipping, against attacks by Iran-backed Houthis,” according to a statement from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The swift response underscores the U.S. Navy’s capability to counter complex threats in contested waters.
The Gulf of Aden remains a strategic transit route for global commerce, and the presence of U.S. Naval forces plays a crucial role in deterring hostile activity. CENTCOM continues to work closely with regional partners to maintain stability and ensure the safety of international shipping lanes.
