Led by Carrier Strike Group 4, the exercise is designed to certify ships that will deploy independently. The Navy said Farragut’s crew was tested on combat systems, damage control and watchstanding through demanding scenarios at sea.
“Training and certifying our Naval forces necessitate placing our ships and watch teams in the most realistic and challenging operational scenarios we can design,” said Rear Admiral Michael Spencer, commander of Carrier Strike Group 4. “Throughout TFEX, Farragut’s crew demonstrated exceptional poise, tactical discipline, and teamwork across every phase.”
The training combined live activity with virtual and simulated scenarios intended to reflect modern maritime threats and peer-adversary tactics. Training Support Vessel Squadron 4, Tactical Training Group Atlantic and Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic supported the exercise.
“The rigorous training scenarios provided during Task Force Exercise tested Farragut’s crew and drove them to excel across the full spectrum of combat operations,” said Commander Joshua Cowart, the ship’s commanding officer. The Navy said completing the exercise validated Farragut’s operational readiness for sustained maritime operations.
Farragut is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer capable of air, surface and undersea warfare, as well as naval surface fire support. It can operate on its own or with a carrier strike group, surface action group or combined force.
Its embarked MH-60R helicopters extend the ship’s ability to observe and respond beyond the horizon. The Navy said the aircraft provide airborne surveillance, strike coordination, electronic warfare and intelligence-gathering capabilities.
