Finnish defence company Patria and UK-based Babcock International Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to introduce the Patria 6x6 vehicle platform to the UK armed forces. The partnership aims to meet the operational requirements of the British Army by leveraging advanced engineering and local production capabilities.

Patria will lead the design and development of the system, tailoring enhancements to meet the specific needs of the British Army. Meanwhile, Babcock will oversee large-scale production and provide a platform support package in alignment with the UK Ministry of Defence’s Land Industrial Strategy.

The Patria 6×6 is a modular and cost-effective armoured vehicle platform offering high mobility, advanced protection, and exceptional performance. It is already in production under the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, involving Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany. Over 200 of the 800 ordered vehicles have been delivered and are currently operational.

Patria, with over 40 years of experience in troop transport and system integration, leads the CAVS programme as the prime contractor. The programme is designed to utilise local industry capabilities within member nations, ensuring a robust security of supply and promoting European defence collaboration.

Babcock, as a strategic partner to the British Army, brings extensive expertise in platform integration and production. Its skilled workforce is already engaged in high-volume build programmes for the UK armed forces, ensuring timely delivery and operational readiness.
