Air defence: Germany delivers two Patriot launchers to Ukraine

The German Federal Government has announced the delivery of two Patriot air defence system launchers to Ukraine. This move constitutes additional German support for Ukraine, with the intent to bolster the air and missile defence capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Previously, Germany provided Ukraine with an undisclosed quantity of missiles for the Patriot air defence system, which were delivered by the United States. In addition to this, Berlin has also transferred two units of the IRIS-T SLM air defence system to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This system, manufactured by the German defense industry, has demonstrated exceptional efficiency in Ukraine. According to Ukrainian military sources, the effectiveness of the IRIS-T SLM system stands at an impressive 100 percent.

Furthermore, Germany has delivered two TRML-4D air surveillance radars to Ukraine. The German Federal Government’s statement confirms that Berlin has also furnished Ukraine with 500 Stinger systems and 2,700 Strela systems.

As part of their support, Germany has also equipped the Armed Forces of Ukraine with 46 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, along with a substantial supply of over 70,000 rounds of ammunition.

 

 

Berlin made the decision to provide the Patriot system to Ukraine on January 5. Shortly after this date, Ukrainian soldiers commenced training for the operation of the system. The training was conducted by the Luftwaffe in Germany
