A full flight-test campaign will follow in 2026 at Spain’s National Institute of Aerospace Technology’s (INTA’s) CEUS facility. These trials are critical for achieving airworthiness certification and meeting stringent safety and performance standards ahead of the first system delivery in 2027.
“This new technical achievement for SIRTAP demonstrates Airbus’ agility to drive technological innovation with our aerospace industry partners in a timely manner in accordance with our vision,” said Jean-Brice Dumont, Head of Air Power at Airbus Defence and Space. “Designed and manufactured in Spain, SIRTAP will strengthen national sovereignty and will be a benchmark in the tactical unmanned aerial systems segment worldwide.”
In November 2023, the Spanish Ministry of Defence ordered nine SIRTAP systems, each comprising three remotely piloted aircraft and one ground-control station. In total, 27 drones and nine stations will enhance the Spanish Armed Forces’ tactical surveillance capabilities.
Airbus will also provide two simulators for operator training, which have already passed the Critical Design Review stage confirming the finalised design. The SIRTAP programme highlights a strategic national effort in innovation and industrial collaboration.
SIRTAP’s ITAR-free design supports its potential for international export and future adaptation. Plans for a naval variant and weapons integration are part of Airbus’ broader goal to expand Europe’s industrial footprint in unmanned aerial technologies.
