The upgraded configuration includes the Safran EuroFLIR 410M electro-optical observation and targeting system, a new CMA5024 GPS navigation system, and lighting compatible with night-vision goggles. These enhancements reflect Airbus’s commitment to equipping France with state-of-the-art technology.
The delivery marks the beginning of a process to replace the ageing fleet of Sud-Aviation SA 330 Puma transport helicopters, which are deployed in mainland France and its overseas territories. To date, Airbus has supplied France with 20 H225M helicopters, one of which was lost in a crash.
This acquisition is part of a government economic support programme launched in response to the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. France, the first European operator of the H225M, has been joined by Hungary and the Netherlands, which are also investing in this versatile platform.
Hungary has received 14 of its 16 ordered H225Ms, while the Netherlands is set to take delivery of 12 units between 2030 and 2032. These agreements underline the H225M’s growing reputation as a reliable and advanced solution for military transport needs across Europe.
