Albania interested in defence and industrial cooperation with Israel

By Arie Egozi

Albania shows interest in some Israeli defence systems that can improve the capabilities of its armed forces.

On June 26 Israeli Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant and his Albanian counterpart, Minister of Defence Niko Peleshi, signed the first defense MOU of its kind, between their respective establishments.

The Albanian Minister was welcomed in a celebratory ceremony, followed by a meeting during which the parties discussed bilateral defence cooperation and security issues of common interest.

Upon completing the meeting, the Ministers conducted a symbolic ceremony during which they signed the defense MOU between the security establishments of each country. The MOU sets the framework for defence, military and industrial cooperation.

Minister Gallant concluded the discussion by expressing his appreciation to Minister Peleshi for his commitment to further strengthening the diplomatic and security ties between the State of Israel and Albania.

Last year Albania purchased Turkish made armed drones as part of this country’s efforts to improve its defences.
