ASELSAN is building on its defence electronics expertise to expand its satellite business and pursue international opportunities, chief executive Ahmet Akyol said at the International Astronautical Congress 2026 in Antalya. The company is presenting communications and radar imaging programmes, including a low Earth orbit project targeting production capacity of up to four satellites a month.

“Our experience as a defense electronics company has given us a strong foundation to develop technologies for the space domain,” said Akyol, ASELSAN’s president and CEO. “Today, ASELSAN has in-house capabilities spanning the space value chain, from chip technologies and space-qualified electronics to satellite systems, platforms & payloads, and ground infrastructure.”

“IAC 2026 provides an important platform to showcase these capabilities and our growing ambition in space,” Akyol said. “Our ‘From Chip to Constellation’ vision brings these capabilities together to develop complete, secure and competitive space architectures, while creating new opportunities in international markets.”

The Turkish company’s exhibition centres on ASTRALINK, TÜRKSAT-6A and GÖKTÜRK-3, covering different orbits and missions. ASELSAN is also the congress’s anchor sponsor.

ASTRALINK is being developed under the Low Earth Orbit Satellites and Military 5G/6G Communications System Project. It is designed to deliver secure, uninterrupted, low-latency and high-capacity communications between network centres and users beyond the line of sight of terrestrial networks.

The project includes plans for scalable manufacturing capacity of up to four satellites per month. That figure is a production target, with the programme also intended to strengthen Türkiye’s domestic space-based communications capabilities.

TÜRKSAT-6A features ASELSAN-developed communications payloads and satellite technologies for geostationary orbit. The company is drawing on that experience in its technology and engineering work for TÜRKSAT-7A, Türkiye’s next-generation geostationary communications satellite.

GÖKTÜRK-3 is a synthetic aperture radar satellite programme intended to expand Türkiye’s ability to obtain imagery by day and night in all weather conditions. ASELSAN is responsible for developing the imaging radar, secure equipment to transmit large volumes of data to the ground, and the satellite’s main security unit.

The company began working on satellite and space technologies in the early 2000s, initially concentrating on ground systems and user satellite communications equipment. Its portfolio has since expanded to satellite systems, platforms, payloads and ground control centres.
