Marshall, known for its expertise in aerospace maintenance, modification, and integration, undertook the upgrade at its Cambridge headquarters. The company replaced the existing navigation systems on the C-130 Hercules aircraft with advanced technology that meets the latest international standards. The upgrade included enhancements to the Flight Management System (FMS), Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B), and other critical navigation components.
The project was completed ahead of schedule, demonstrating Marshall’s commitment to delivering timely solutions to its clients. Marshall’s engineers worked in close collaboration with the Austrian Air Force to ensure that the upgrades were tailored to meet specific operational requirements.
“This project underlines our capability to support military operators around the world with complex upgrades, ensuring their aircraft are fit for purpose in today’s demanding operational environments,” said Neil McManus, Marshall’s Managing Director of Aerospace.
The upgraded systems will enable the C-130 aircraft to operate in a wider range of airspaces with enhanced accuracy and safety, aligning with global standards set by aviation authorities such as the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The C-130 Hercules is a versatile transport aircraft used by the Austrian Air Force for a variety of missions, including troop and cargo transport, medical evacuation, and humanitarian aid. The navigation upgrade is part of the Austrian Air Force’s ongoing efforts to modernise its fleet and maintain a high level of readiness and capability.
Marshall’s successful completion of this project not only strengthens its relationship with the Austrian Air Force but also reinforces its position as a leader in providing comprehensive aerospace solutions to military and commercial operators worldwide.
