The MOU was signed at the EURONAVAL 2024 exhibition in Paris, with senior leaders from each company in attendance. Representing LIG Nex1 was Park Taesik, Head of the PGM Division, while Babcock was represented by Mark Goldsack, Managing Director of Business Growth and AUKUS.
This partnership comes as demand rises for rapid market entry and efficient integration of weapons systems within global MRO frameworks. Babcock plans to leverage its extensive experience in maintaining and servicing defence equipment to enhance the collaboration. “Together, we’ll focus on building robust infrastructure, supply chains and services to meet the specific requirements of customers in emerging international markets,” a company spokesperson stated.
Mark Goldsack highlighted the significance of this partnership for Babcock’s international expansion strategy, saying, “This is an exciting step in growing our portfolio of international partnerships and the opportunity to leverage the skills and expertise of organisations such as LIG Nex1 in markets where we can make a real impact through our combined offering.” He expressed anticipation for the positive outcomes of their collective capabilities.
LIG Nex1’s PGM Division Head, Park Taesik, also emphasised the importance of this partnership for South Korea’s defence industry. “The future global competitiveness of K-Defence largely depends on securing sustainable MRO Capabilities,” he stated, adding, “We hope this MOU will serve as a catalyst to further strengthen LIG Nex1’s position in the international defence market.”
