This order builds upon the existing full-rate production contract, expanding the company’s commitment to modernising the Army’s fleet.
The AMPV family of vehicles is designed to replace the Army’s outdated M113 vehicles, providing enhanced survivability, mobility, on-board power, and improved interoperability for the Armored Brigade Combat Team.
The AMPV series consists of five different variants: General Purpose, Mortar Carrier, Medical Evacuation, Medical Treatment, and Mission Command vehicles.
Bill Sheehy, the AMPV programme director for BAE Systems, stated that the vehicles have been rigorously tested to meet the diverse mission requirements of soldiers in combat scenarios.
He expressed pride in the programme’s progress to full-rate production and emphasised the importance of partnerships with the U.S. Army and suppliers to maintain a high production volume.
BAE Systems is also nearing the completion of a large-scale expansion at its York, Pennsylvania facility, which includes the AMPV production line.
This expansion, along with advanced engineering capabilities across BAE’s industrial network, aims to increase production capacity to meet the needs of both U.S. and potential international customers.
