The United States has delivered the first new Boeing CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift helicopter to Egypt as Cairo begins receiving a planned fleet of 12 aircraft. The U.S. Embassy in Cairo announced the delivery on Sept. 17, describing it as another step in expanding commercial and defense cooperation between the two countries.
The embassy congratulated Boeing, the U.S. Army and the Egyptian Ministry of Defense on the handover. It did not provide further details on the delivery schedule for the remaining helicopters or operational plans for the new aircraft.
The CH-47F is the latest production version of Boeing’s twin-rotor Chinook transport helicopter and is designed to carry troops, equipment and heavy cargo. Egypt is acquiring the type to strengthen and modernize its heavy-lift helicopter capability.
The 12 planned CH-47Fs are intended to expand the capabilities of Egypt’s Chinook fleet, which has relied on earlier variants of the platform. The delivery of the first aircraft marks the start of Egypt’s transition to the newer version.
“Congratulations to Boeing, the U.S. Army and the Egyptian Ministry of Defense on the delivery of the new CH-47F Chinook helicopter—another concrete example of the expanding commercial and defense partnership between the United States and Egypt,” the U.S. Embassy Cairo said. The statement presented the delivery as part of the broader commercial and defense relationship between Washington and Cairo.
