The companies could explore joint investment in manufacturing or assembly facilities in Europe and cooperation on strategic acquisitions. CSG also sees scope to introduce its customers to MDA Space to support the company’s international growth.
“We want to be a long-term strategic shareholder and see significant potential for MDA Space and CSG to grow alongside each other,” said Michal Strnad, chairman of CSG’s board. The stake is held through a dedicated CSG subsidiary.
CSG has also formed a space team, naming former NATO space adviser Ladislav Stahl as head of space strategy and technology and investment specialist Filip Kocián as space director for corporate development. Cameron McKenzie, a Canadian aerospace and defence executive, will advise on CSG’s activities and expansion in Canada.
The deal follows smaller investments through the Tech Horizons VC fund in Britain’s SatVu and Germany’s Atmos Space Cargo. MDA Space’s activities span satellite systems, robotics, space operations, geointelligence and defence-related applications.
