Dynamit Nobel Defence (DND) enters into cooperation with Ukrainian industry

By Lukasz Prus, Defence Industry Europe

On February 17, Dynamit Nobel Defence (DND), a German manufacturer of anti-tank weapon systems, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ukrainian state-owned joint stock company Ukrainian Defence Industry (UDI), formerly known as Ukroboronprom.

This document paves the way for future industry cooperation between DND and UDI.

Neither side has disclosed details on the scope of their future cooperation. However, Herman Smetanin, General Director of UDI, stated that the collaboration between the two companies “is vital for strengthening defence capabilities and crucial for Ukraine’s victory”.

DND is renowned for its innovative shoulder-fired weapon systems, including the RGW (Recoilless Grenade Weapon) system and the iconic Panzerfaust 3 family. These weapon concepts epitomize a blend of the Davis Gun principle, offering recoilless, shoulder-launched, single-soldier operated, disposable weapons designed for anti-tank, anti-structure, and multipurpose applications. DND’s munitions are crafted to engage a broad spectrum of targets, providing various firing modes to ensure maximum operational flexibility.

After February 24, 2022, the German Federal Government has supplied some of the weapon systems manufactured by DND. According to information disclosed by the Office of the German Chancellor, Berlin has transferred to Ukraine an unspecified amount of RGW 90 Matador weapon systems and 3,000 units of Panzerfaust-3 anti-tank weapons.
