The EU states have agreed to continue their joint funding of military equipment for Ukraine.

Under the agreement reached in Brussels, the supply of weapons, ammunition and other goods worth at least five billion euros will be guaranteed, according to information from the current Belgian EU Council Presidency and several diplomats.

The German EU Ambassador Michael Clauß described the agreement as “good news for Ukraine,” saying that it would make possible the particularly quick and unbureaucratic bilateral supply of military equipment as part of the EU’s support for Ukraine.

In his evening video address meanwhile, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy also focused on the prospect of his country joining the EU; it has been a candidate country for some months now. The goal was to begin the official accession negotiations in the first half of this year, he emphasised.
