Representatives from the three countries met TKMS, Kongsberg and Multiconsult in Kiel for a four-day planning event at the end of July. The talks focused on the next programme phases, new multilateral working structures and preparations for contract negotiations.
The partners also started laying the foundations for cooperation between their navies, procurement organisations and industry. TKMS said Canada’s participation would turn the 212CD programme into a multinational NATO cooperation.
“The selection of TKMS as Preferred Supplier for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project is a significant milestone,” said Thomas Keupp, Chief Sales Officer of TKMS. “With the first trilateral planning event, we are jointly laying the foundation for a trusting and cooperative partnership with Germany, Norway and Canada.”
“The 212CD program combines cutting-edge technology with a shared security vision and will sustainably strengthen maritime cooperation within NATO,” Keupp said. The Kiel event marked the first joint planning meeting involving Germany, Norway and Canada under the programme.
The cooperation is intended to improve naval interoperability and create synergies across the submarine lifecycle. TKMS said the initiative is also aimed at strengthening maritime security in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions.
The Kiel meeting starts a more intensive phase of cooperation between the three countries and TKMS. The partners will deepen joint planning and prepare the next steps in programme implementation over the coming weeks.
Negotiations to formalise the cooperation are also due to begin. Those talks will run alongside further preparations for the next phases of the 212CD programme.
