The LMV Programme seeks to replace ageing vehicles with a Common Based Platform as part of the broader LMP initiative to modernise and streamline the British Army’s vehicle fleet. GM Defense, a subsidiary of General Motors, brings to the partnership its high-volume manufacturing capabilities and cost-efficient, customisable mobility platforms.
GM Defense’s Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) and its utility variant—both based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2—will be offered as part of the LMV solution. These vehicles feature a high percentage of commercial-off-the-shelf parts and are already operational with the U.S. Army, Special Operations Forces, Canadian Armed Forces, and forward-deployed units across the U.S., Europe and Canada.
“Our objective is to deliver the next generation of mobility solutions for the UK with speed, efficiency, and enhanced capabilities by leveraging GM’s extensive investments in mobility R&D, product development, and manufacturing,” said GM Defense President Steve duMont. “Together, we will deliver innovative solutions to the British Army, demonstrating our commitment to provide the best capability to our NATO alliance partners.”
NP Aerospace, with facilities in Coventry, UK and London, Ontario, Canada, contributes expertise in armour manufacturing, technology integration, and vehicle support services. GM Defense will also draw on this knowledge to support Canadian Armed Forces programmes, including the Light Utility Vehicle and Light Forces Enhancement initiatives.
“With decades of experience maintaining and upgrading global vehicle fleets, we are pleased to expand our teaming agreement with GM Defense to introduce new capabilities and innovation to UK and NATO defence markets,” said James Kempston, CEO of NP Aerospace. “The LMV Programme is designed to deliver much needed fleet modernization and wider economic growth as part of the Land Industrial Strategy.”
Since 2023, GM Defense and NP Aerospace have worked together on cooperative R&D, logistics, and sustainment for various defence projects. The companies plan to showcase their advanced vehicle technologies at defence exhibitions later this year.
