U.S. Central Command said it completed a new wave of offensive strikes against Iran on July 12. CENTCOM said the operation targeted dozens of sites at multiple locations with precision munitions.

The command said the strikes were intended to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international shipping moving through the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is a vital maritime corridor for global trade, and CENTCOM said Iran does not control it.

CENTCOM said U.S. forces struck Iranian military air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats. The command said the operation used U.S. fighter aircraft, naval vessels, one-way attack aerial drones and one-way attack sea drones.

CENTCOM said this was the first time one-way attack sea drones were used in the strikes. The statement did not provide further details on damage assessments, casualties or the number of targets hit.

The command said U.S. forces remain postured and prepared to support freedom of navigation for commercial shipping. It said the posture comes despite what it described as Iran’s continued unwarranted aggression, harassment, threats and arbitrary declarations.
