The interception, which took place on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, was lauded by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the developer of the Arrow systems. IAI’s radar and intelligence systems worked in tandem to track, detect, and neutralize the incoming threats, preventing damage to Israeli population centers and strategic assets.
Boaz Levy, President and CEO of IAI, expressed pride in the defence establishment’s successful response. “The great achievement this evening is that the citizens of Israel can wake up tomorrow morning, for the second time after an Iranian attack, to a day as normal as possible, and celebrate Rosh Hashanah safely. Our team at Israel Aerospace Industries works day and night to keep our skies safe, and the results of the interceptions are proof of their excellence,” he said.
The Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 systems are cornerstones of Israel’s multi-layered air defence strategy. The Arrow 3, in particular, is designed to intercept newer, longer-range ballistic missiles, including those that could carry weapons of mass destruction. Both systems integrate into the broader Arrow Weapon System (AWS), providing multiple engagement opportunities to neutralize threats both inside the atmosphere and in space (endo- and exo-atmospheric).
The deployment of these systems highlights Israel’s preparedness to defend against a wide range of missile threats, including the hypersonic missiles and warheads launched at speeds of up to 3 kilometers per second. The Arrow systems’ track record includes proven success against threats such as Scud and Shahab-3 missiles, demonstrating their precision and reliability in operational settings.
