The Israeli Navy, in collaboration with the Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D) of the Israel Ministry of Defence and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), has successfully conducted an operational test of the "Gabriel 5" sea-to-sea missile. The missile, which is developed and produced by IAI, was launched at a target simulating an enemy vessel to assess its performance.

During the test, the missile system successfully completed detection and firing processes under realistic conditions. This test was part of ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the operational capabilities of the Israeli Navy’s missile systems.

The Gabriel 5 is an advanced long-range anti-ship missile designed to operate in various maritime and atmospheric conditions. It is reported to have a range of up to 400 km and is capable of targeting a wide variety of threats at sea.

The missile, also referred to as the ‘Advanced Surface Attack Missile’ (ASAM), has been in service since at least 2007 and is currently deployed on the Israeli Navy’s Sa’ar 5 corvettes. An additional variant, known as the Advanced Naval Attack Missile, is reported to have been developed with an active radar seeker and a two-way datalink, with a range of 150 km. Finland has purchased a version of the Gabriel missile for its Hamina-class and Pohjanmaa-class ships.

The Israeli Navy is incorporating advanced systems to expand the capabilities of its fleet, particularly its Sa’ar 6 corvettes. The Gabriel 5 missile, developed and manufactured by IAI, is one of the key components contributing to the Navy’s ability to operate effectively in diverse maritime environments.
