Kongsberg secures contract to deliver NASAMS and NOMADS systems to the Netherlands

By Defence Industry Europe

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed a NOK 12 billion (approximately EUR 1.02 billion) contract with the Dutch government to supply NASAMS and NOMADS air defence systems. The agreement was formalised on 21 November 2024 and forms part of the Netherlands' broader CITADEL programme for integrated air and missile defence.

The contract follows the Dutch government’s recommendation to Parliament on 14 October 2024, where it outlined plans to procure the systems to strengthen national defence capabilities. The Netherlands has been a NASAMS user since 2006, and this new acquisition expands the country’s air defence infrastructure.

“By selecting NASAMS and NOMADS, the Netherlands will enhance its air defence capabilities with an integrated system that covers short- and medium-range threats,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. He noted that the Netherlands is now the first international customer for the newly developed NOMADS system.

NOMADS, designed for highly mobile operations, is tailored to protect land forces in dynamic and contested environments. Fully integrated with NASAMS and other NATO systems, it supports both autonomous and networked operations, enabling seamless coordination across multiple vehicles and systems.

Deliveries of the new systems are scheduled to begin in 2028. NASAMS, developed in collaboration with Raytheon in the US, is known as the world’s first operational network-centric air defence system, capable of countering a wide range of aerial threats with precision and adaptability.
