L3Harris Technologies has secured a USD 90 million sole-source follow-on contract from the U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command to advance Space Domain Awareness (SDA). The contract will support the development of astrometric tools to improve the Advanced Tracking and Launch Analysis System (ATLAS), which integrates data crucial to space operations and decision-making.

The upgrade aims to modernise command and control (C2) capabilities by improving the speed, accuracy and relevance of satellite and space debris tracking. This enhancement supports the U.S. Department of Defense’s strategic objective to maintain superiority in the increasingly contested space environment.

“We recognize Space Domain Awareness is critical to the Space Force and is essential to defending vital national interests,” said Ed Zoiss, President of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris. “Our work on the ATLAS program will enhance space operations and will help prevent adversaries from disrupting, degrading and destroying U.S. space capabilities.”

The ATLAS system plays a key role in reducing the risk of operational surprises and helping warfighters respond swiftly to emerging threats, including anti-satellite technologies. This modernisation effort is expected to significantly increase situational awareness and readiness across U.S. space operations.
