NRO successfully launches fifth proliferated architecture mission with NROL-126

By Defence Industry Europe

The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), in collaboration with the U.S. Space Force’s Space Launch Delta 30 and SpaceX, successfully launched the NROL-126 mission on 30 November 2024. The launch, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, took place at 3:10 a.m. EST from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

This marks the fifth mission within the NRO’s proliferated architecture programme, emphasising the efficiency and pace of delivering advanced satellites to orbit. NROL-126 follows the successful launch of NROL-167 on 24 October, highlighting the rapid deployment strategy that continues to expand and enhance the NRO’s satellite constellation.

For over 60 years, the NRO has been a global leader in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, meeting the critical needs of U.S. military, intelligence, civil, and allied operations. “The NRO’s next-generation systems will help ensure that the right data is delivered to the right user at the right time, faster than ever before,” the agency stated.

Looking ahead, approximately six launches are planned for 2024 to support this advanced architecture, with further launches scheduled through to 2028.
