The test campaign assessed the vehicle and weapon system while stationary and moving. Otokar and Leonardo said the turret, fire-control system, stabilisation and overall configuration met all planned objectives.
Before firing began, engineers completed work on the mechanical, electrical, electronic and software interfaces between the platform and turret. Functional checks, safety inspections and system validation were also carried out during the integration phase.
“The successful completion of this programme demonstrates TULPAR’s capability to integrate advanced large-calibre turret systems while delivering the mobility, survivability and firepower required by modern armed forces,” said Sedef Vehbi, Military Cluster Head at Otokar. “It also reflects Otokar’s engineering excellence and our commitment to developing modular architecture, enabling rapid integration of mission-specific weapon systems to meet diverse operational requirements of our customers.”
The configuration combines Leonardo’s turret technology with TULPAR’s tracked chassis, protection and payload capacity. The companies said the integration also demonstrated the platform’s ability to accommodate future upgrades and different mission systems.
TULPAR has a scalable gross vehicle weight of between 28 and 45 tonnes. Its common architecture can support configurations including a medium tank, infantry fighting vehicle, fire-support platform, air-defence system, mortar carrier, recovery vehicle and medical evacuation vehicle.
“We are pleased with the outcome and proud to showcase the technological excellence of our systems,” said Luca Perazzo, Deputy Managing Director Defence Systems Business Area at Leonardo. “The integration of our HITFACT MkII turret onto the Tulpar further demonstrates turret’s modularity.”
The fully digital HITFACT MkII can carry either a 105/52 mm rifled gun or a 120/45 mm low-recoil smoothbore gun. Leonardo said the 120 mm configuration provides firepower comparable with a main battle tank while remaining suitable for light or medium platforms.
The turret uses panoramic electro-optical systems for the commander and gunner to support surveillance, detection and targeting. It can also employ Vulcano 120 guided ammunition for precision engagements.
Leonardo said the turret can be fitted with its HITROLE counter-uncrewed-aircraft remote weapon station armed with the 30×113 mm Blaze gun. Otokar and Leonardo plan to assess further cooperation opportunities following completion of the integration and firing campaign.
