Poland signs EUR 1.5 billion deal for over 100 Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles

On 27 March 2025, Poland’s Armament Agency signed the first executive contract for the delivery of Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to the Polish Armed Forces. The agreement, worth approximately EUR 1.53 billion, covers the supply of 111 vehicles and is scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2029.

The contract was signed with a consortium consisting of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. and Huta Stalowa Wola S.A. It also includes a logistics and training package, technical documentation for serial production, and a programme for acceptance testing.

“The Borsuk IFV represents a key response to the current and future needs of mechanised forces,” stated the Armament Agency. “In time, it will become the dominant solution in this area within the Polish Armed Forces.”

This agreement follows a framework contract signed on 28 February 2023, which set the terms for the gradual acquisition of Borsuk vehicles and a family of specialist tracked vehicles based on the Universal Modular Tracked Platform (UMPG). Over the course of the entire programme, Poland plans to acquire around 1,400 vehicles in total.

These will include specialist variants such as the ŻUK reconnaissance transporters, OSET command vehicles, GOTEM medical evacuation vehicles, GEKON technical support vehicles, and ARES chemical reconnaissance vehicles. The broad scope of the programme is intended to support a comprehensive modernisation of Poland’s armoured capabilities.

The Borsuk vehicle features a remote-controlled ZSSW-30 turret system and is operated by a crew of three, with capacity to transport six additional soldiers. Designed for high mobility, it can traverse water obstacles by swimming and is capable of operation in diverse climate conditions.

Armed with a Bushmaster Mk.44S automatic cannon and a 7.62 mm UKM-2000C coaxial machine gun, the turret system supports five types of ammunition, including programmable rounds. The vehicle is also equipped with a dual anti-tank guided missile launcher, allowing it to engage infantry, armoured vehicles, aerial targets, and other threats in all weather and light conditions.

With a combat weight of 28 tonnes, the Borsuk can reach road speeds of 65 km/h and swim at up to 8 km/h. Its deployment marks a significant step in replacing ageing Soviet-era BWP-1 vehicles and enhancing the operational readiness of Poland’s ground forces.
