The ESM 280 is designed for medium to heavy military platforms with power outputs of up to 620 kilowatts. The transmission transfers technologies previously developed for tracked combat vehicles into wheeled armoured vehicle applications.

“With the ESM 280, we are bringing decades of experience from tracked vehicle programs into the wheeled armored vehicle market,” said Arnaud de Péchy, président of RENK France S.A.S. “Unlike adapted civilian transmissions, the ESM 280 is purpose-built for military operations delivering sustained performance under extreme loads, superior maneuverability, and long-term independence from civilian technology cycles.”

The transmission incorporates a range pack derived from the ESM 350 system. RENK said this architecture is intended to provide high performance, durability and operational reliability in demanding conditions.

The company stated that the ESM 280 was engineered specifically for military use rather than adapted from civilian technology. It is designed to support continuous operation under extreme conditions and maintain uninterrupted tractive effort during manoeuvres under load.

RENK said the compact design allows integration into existing vehicle platforms without structural modifications. This approach is intended to simplify installation and increase flexibility for vehicle programmes.

The company added that the ESM 280 is designed for a lifecycle of up to 40 years. The transmission is intended to provide long-term maintainability and reduce dependence on civilian technology development cycles.

RENK said the system is aimed at supporting international military vehicle programmes requiring sustained operational capability. The launch reflects growing demand for dedicated military drivetrain solutions in the wheeled armoured vehicle sector.
