The swap-body trucks are expected to be delivered by November 2025, with the UTF vehicles scheduled for 2026. This order is part of a larger framework agreement finalised in July 2024, which enables the Bundeswehr to procure up to 6,500 vehicles worth a potential EUR 3.5 billion over seven years. The contract also introduces a new 4×4 UTF 3.5-tonne model, expanding the fleet’s versatility and commonality with the existing UTF family.
The framework agreement marks a milestone in Rheinmetall’s history as it is the company’s largest order in the field of logistical vehicles. In 2024 alone, Rheinmetall delivered a record-breaking 2,015 logistics vehicles, significantly enhancing the Bundeswehr’s operational capabilities. These deliveries included 1,715 swap-body systems, 250 unprotected transport vehicles, and 50 semi-trailer units.
Since 2017, Rheinmetall has delivered over 6,000 HX-series vehicles to the Bundeswehr, underscoring the success of the UTF family in military logistics. The UTF vehicles, built on the robust HX platform, are designed for high mobility in challenging terrains and are widely used internationally, with more than 20,000 units deployed globally. Countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and Ukraine are among its users, reflecting the platform’s interoperability and reliability.
A significant portion of the value added by these vehicles—over 75%—is generated in Germany. This recent order reinforces Rheinmetall’s role as a key partner in modernising the Bundeswehr’s logistics and supports the procurement strategy of the German Parliament, which approved the funding in December 2024.
