On February 18, during the Munich Security Conference, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba met Armin Papperger, the CEO of the leading German defence company Rheinmetall. They discussed “ways to increase production for Ukraine and allies”, Kuleba wrote on social media.

“We also discussed large projects to boost Ukraine’s tank and armored vehicles capabilities, both short-term and long-term”, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister added in a post published on social media. “Rheinmetall is ready to ramp up engagement,” he added.

Earlier this month CEO of Rheinmetall Armin Papperger told the German newspaper Handelsblatt that the company is in talks with Ukraine about the export of KF51 Panther main battle tanks. According to the newspaper, Kyiv is also showing interest in the Rheinmetall’s KF 41 Lynx infantry fighting vehicle.

Rheinmetall CEO Armin Paperger told Handeslblatt that KF 51 Panther tanks for Ukraine could be produced in Germany or Hungary. He also said that deliveries could start in 15 to 18 months.
