Slovakia intends to purchase 12 AH-1Z Viper helicopters and Hellfire missiles

By Defence Industry Europe

The Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic has submitted a Letter of Request to Washington regarding the acquisition of 12 Bell AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters and AGM-114 Hellfire II guided missiles.

According to the Slovak Ministry of Defence, Bratislava anticipates that the delivery of the 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters will be completed within 3-4 years after the signing of the contract.

Bratislava stated that the future contract will encompass helicopters previously used by the American armed forces. Before being transferred to the Slovak Republic, the helicopters will undergo maintenance and preparation for transfer to Slovak Armed Forces.

The ministry noted that the entire package, including training and logistic support, will be valued at over USD 1 billion. However, the Slovak government will only be responsible for approximately USD 340, while the remaining portion of the contract’s worth will be covered by Washington as compensation for Slovakia’s defence support for Ukraine.
