Thales successfully demonstrates consecutive firing of Lightweight Multi-role Missile [VIDEO]

By Defence Industry Europe

Thales UK, in partnership with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), has demonstrated the advanced capabilities of its Lightweight Multi-role Missile (LMM) to an audience of international defence partners. The event, held at Manorbier, showcased the LMM's performance in air defence and surface attack roles, highlighting its versatility and precision.

In a first-of-its-kind demonstration, Thales UK successfully executed consecutive firings of the LMM, targeting both an air and a sea threat. The engagement involved the seamless destruction of a Banshee Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and a fast inshore attack craft (FIAC), with two missiles launched within 60 seconds, each tailored for its specific target.

The LMM, fired from a vehicle-mounted lightweight fire control and launch system developed by Thales UK, displayed its agility and lethality during the test. This accomplishment underlines Thales’ leadership in short-range defence solutions and its commitment to delivering cutting-edge multi-role weaponry to address diverse operational challenges.

The demonstration also featured support from the British Army and Royal Navy, providing static displays of shoulder and tripod-mounted launchers. A Wildcat helicopter, capable of carrying 20 LMMs in its naval configuration (known as Martlet), was also exhibited, reinforcing the missile’s adaptability across land, sea, and air platforms.
